about
kathoderae
Hello! I’m kathoderae, also known as KR Gonzales, a Filipino interdisciplinary visual storyteller currently living in the land of the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the syilx/Okanagan people, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
I’m passionate about exploring the themes of queer sensibilities, the immigrant diaspora, and everything in between. My work is deeply rooted in my experiences and emotions, which I seek to capture and communicate through my art.
Growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s, one of my earliest memories is watching TV on a bulky CRT television set. It was my window to the world, a source of inspiration and entertainment that has shaped my perspective on art and storytelling. As an artist, I draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including films, music, literature, and personal experiences.
My artist name, kathoderae, is a playful nod to my birth name, Kathleen Rae, and the cathode ray tubes that were used in early television sets. It reflects my fascination with the evolution of technology and how it has impacted our lives and the way we create and consume art.
